Netflix has ordered two more seasons of its Regency-era bonkbuster Bridgerton.
With the production currently underway on Season 2, Netflix is dropping a big surprise for the legion of fans of the Shondaland show, revealing that it will be entering the world of Julia Quinn’s novels for a third and fourth season return.
In agreement with Bridgerton tradition, Lady Whistledown had her own say on the renewal. “This writer will have to buy more ink,” said the character, who is narrated by Julie Andrews and is the pen name of Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). See below for a special issue of her Society Paper:
Shonda Rhimes said in a statement: ‘From the first time I read Julia Quinn’s fun Bridgerton series, I knew these were stories that would captivate a audience. But the evolution of this adaptation would not have been a success without the very important contributions of the entire Shondaland team.

They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think the audiences will continue to swim for this show. We plan to Bridgerton still doing business for a long time. ”
Season 2 is about striving for a suitable marriage for Bridgerton’s oldest brother, Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey, as described in the second book of Quinn’s Bridgerton series, The Burgh Count who loved me. It goes without saying that Seasons 3 and 4 should follow a similar book-by-book rhythm of storytelling, with the next two titles in Quinn’s eight-part series of novels. Although the renewal of two seasons was not expected, it is not a strange shock, given the runaway success of the first season. The period drama becomes Netflix’s biggest series ever after it was watched by a record 82 million households around the world and made stars out of its cast almost overnight. The only sad news for fans of Season 1 is that not all cast will return for future seasons, especially Regé-Jean Page, who played the brave Duke of Simon Bassett.
Bridgerton was created by Shondaland veteran Chris Van Dusen, who co-produces with Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
The focus of Season 2 was teased in the final minutes of the Season 1 finale when Anthony revealed to Daphne and Simon his plans to “find and explain” my intentions to my new fish countess immediately after the end of his relationship with the opera singer Siena.
As can be seen from the deadline, Sex education star Simone Ashley will play as Anthony’s romantic interest, Kate Sharma. Kate, who has just arrived in London, is a smart, wayward young woman who suffers no fools. Other new cast include newcomer Charithra Chandran, who got the role of Sharma’s younger sister Edwina, and Rupert Young, who plays Jack, the newest member of the Ton, with a connection to one of his most famous families and a Bridgerton mystery. The character was created for the series; he is not in the books.
