Hawley and Cruz, graduates of Yale and Harvard law schools, respectively, have faced increasing condemnation after a crowd of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in an attempt to overthrow the election.

‘The nation and the world have watched as rioters take over the halls and chambers that embody our democracy. “After the violence and terror of the day’s events, Senators Hawley and Cruz still prefer to stand in the U.S. Senate’s room and persist in their unfounded objections to the will of the people,” he added.

The petition was started by a group of seven Yale law students, including Daniel Ki, who told The Washington Post “we thought it was important to talk.”

“We have decided to ask other law students and members of the bar to take part in the call to start immediate disruption proceedings against Sens. Hawley and Cruz were inspired and delighted by the overwhelming response,” Ki told the newspaper.
