Mysterious monolith appears near Turkish World Heritage Site

ISTANBUL (AP) – Turkish authorities are investigating the appearance of a mysterious monolith in southeastern Turkey.

The metal block was found Friday by a farmer in Sanliurfa province with an old Turkish script reading: “Look at the sky, see the moon.” The monolith, 3 meters high (about 10 feet), was discovered near the UNESCO World Heritage Site named Gobekli Tepe, which has megalithic structures thousands of years before Stonehenge dating from the 10th millennium BC.

Turkish media reported on Sunday that gendarmes were watching CCTV footage and investigating vehicles that may have been transporting the monolith.

Other mysterious monoliths have surfaced and some have disappeared in numerous countries over the past few months.
