“In the early evening of December 31, several hundred vehicles began to converge in an industrial area in the city of Lieuron to set up a large party,” the local authority said on Friday.
According to a statement, local police tried to stop the rave, but “faced violent hostility.”
A police vehicle was set on fire, three other vehicles were damaged and soldiers were spray-painted with bottles and stones, causing minor injuries, ‘the statement added.
Local authorities believe that the number of party-goers ‘is estimated at 2,500, coming from various French departments and from abroad.’
The state prosecutor has since opened an investigation into the incident, which will be under the supervision of the local police department’s investigation brigade.
There has been a national evening clock from 15:00 to 06:00 since 15 December.
