After selling 4 million copies in the first three days, Capcom’s Monster Hunter Rise has now risen to 5 million sales since its March 26 release.

Capcom explains that Rise has shipped 5 million copies worldwide, and not necessarily sell that much is passed on to consumers in the first week. But it’s still a huge number and it speaks to the enormous appeal of the franchise.

Monster Hunter Games shipped 66 million units on December 31, 2020, Capcom said. If Rise’s figures are added, it rises to about 71 million.

The Monster Hunter series started in 2004 and has grown massively since then. Once popular, mainly in Japan – one Japanese chief technology officer released his company the day to play Rise – the series is now pushing westwards and finding a new audience there. Prior to its emergence, Monster Hunter World achieved huge sales figures, thanks in part to the series’ extensive appeal.
