Since the switch to Chromium, Microsoft Edge has become one of the more reliable platforms on the various platforms. It even trumps Google Chrome by not consuming so much memory – a real boon for limited memory systems. To provide an even better experience, Microsoft is now unveiling a major update that adds a host of new features to the browser.

New themes

If you want to apply a coat of fresh paint to your browser, you can try the 24 new themes that Microsoft has released. It ranges from simple colors to game specific colors like Microsoft Flight Simulator, Forza Horizon 4, en Sea of Thieves, amongst other things.

Sleep tabs

Microsoft makes Edge even more resource efficient with Sleeping Tabs. The feature increases browser performance by freezing inactive tabs and reallocating system resources to power active tabs and applications. It is not enabled by default, so you need to go to the settings menu.

Password Manager

An important feature introduced during the new update is the Password Generator, which automatically sets a secure password when you log in to an account or change an existing one. Microsoft also plans to introduce more Password Manager features, including a monitor that will alert you if your password is exposed or leaked on the dark web.

History and tab sync

Shortly after Microsoft users brought history and tab synchronization to users in the United Kingdom, Microsoft made the feature available to all users. Now you can stop on all your devices (even Android and iOS) where you left off and not have to scramble to a specific phone or computer to find the website you visited.
