Michelle Obama responds to Meghan Markle’s racism claims

Former First Lady Michelle Obama said it was “not a surprise” to hear Meghan Markle outline alleged racism within the British royal family.

Obama was questioned about Markle and Prince Harry’s bombing of Oprah Winfrey in an interview with NBC’s program “TODAY” which airs Tuesday.

Markle, 39, who is bisexual, told Winfrey that someone in the royal family had expressed ‘concern’ about Harry, 36, about ‘how dark’ their son Archie’s skin would be.

Co-presenter Jenna Bush Hager said it was “heartbreaking” to hear Markle describe and add to the conversation: “She felt like she was in her own family – her own family thought differently.”

Obama replies, “As I said before, race is not a new construction for people of color in this world, so it was not a surprise to hear her feelings and have them articulated.”

‘I think the thing I’m hoping for, and what I’m thinking about, is that it’s a family in the first place. I pray for forgiveness and healing for them so that they can use it as a teachable moment for all of us. ‘

In another interview published on Monday, Obama, 57, said she hoped the couple would find a way to reconcile with the royal family.

“My hope is that when I think about what they are going through, I think about the importance of family, and I just pray that there is forgiveness, and that at some point there is clarity and love and determination,” she said. said: “Access to Hollywood.”
