House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Sunday that Democrat-backed HB 1 would destroy election confidence and serve as a power grab for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, effectively destroying America if the comprehensive election reform bill passes next month.
“No, I do not have the most to lose: the American public has the most to lose because we would lose our freedom,” McCarthy, R-California, told Fox News Channel’s Sunday Morning Futures. “When you present a bill in Congress, the majority party retains the first figures. It’s HR 1, so it’s the most important thing for Nancy Pelosi to keep her power.”

Every House Democrat signed last week on the comprehensive election reform bill HR 1 – also known as the For the People Act – and said it would expand suffrage and eradicate corruption in politics. But Republicans shrugged it off as a “takeover of the federal government” and accused the Democrats of trying to change election rules to their own advantage.
The bill is expected to be considered on the home floor during the first week of March.
“What we need to do is make people lose their confidence in elections, that you will break down society and that we will lose America as we know it,” McCarthy said, addressing host Maria Bartiromo. “We know there is a real question, one of confidence in the last election.
“What you have to do is exactly this: you have to clean the rollers. … You have to sue to make sure you clean the rollers. We have to make sure there is integrity.”

McCarthy then led a raid on California Gavin Newsom, who is facing an intensifying recall campaign, which is likely to go to the polls this fall. He said the governor is more likely to verify the identification of those who sign the revocation requests than those who vote in his state.
“There’s a reminder going on in California. I’ll guarantee you Gavin Newsom makes sure they check the IDs of whoever’s recalling more than they’s the IDs of who’s voting in California,” McCarthy said. “You can not have a mass voicemail for people who do not even request it when these roles are so bad.
“I’m going to show an ID. To get on a plane. Yes, I can do that. I can also show an ID to vote, because in California it’s just like they do in the COVID bill. “They now want to give vaccines to immigrants, illegal immigrants who come in, before they are given to Americans in San Francisco,” he continued. “If you are illegal, you can vote in a school board race. They want people to be able to vote who are not Americans. We need to have integrity and accountability and elections that people will trust at the end of the day. And that’s why we need to undertake reforms and that’s why HR 1 needs to be aligned. ‘
