Marriott nominates Tony Capuano as new CEO

Marriott International Inc. named Tony Capuano as its new CEO, and has chosen a longtime veteran of the world’s largest hotel business to steer it through the busiest period in memory.

Mr. Capuano, 55, has been with the company for 25 years and was recently a group president responsible for leading Marriott’s global development, design efforts and operations.

He takes first place after former CEO and president Arne Sorenson died last week. Sorenson was diagnosed with stage 2 pancreatic cancer in 2019. Stephanie Linnartz, 52, a president of the Marriott group that oversees consumer operations, technology and emerging businesses, is the company’s new president.

In the management of Marriott, a world championship of 1.4 million rooms, Capuano takes on one of the most challenging positions in the entire American business world.

The hotel industry remains dissatisfied with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, which has wiped out global travel, forced the closure of hotels in cities across the US and the necessary retrenchments and operations around the world. Mr. Capuano is also replacing a beloved CEO who has made an effort to make contact with all of the group leaders to domestic workers.
