Leaky Apple iMac redesign of 2021 is amazing (but a bit predictable)

If there’s one Apple product that has a fresh paint job, it’s the iMac. The all-in-one computer, last redesigned centuries ago (in 2012), is currently one of Apple’s oldest product designs. But a wild new leak has revealed that the iMac could have a very colorful upgrade in 2021.

Not only will the 2021 iMac reportedly have a brand new design, but it will apparently also appear in five brand new colors. And judging by new 3D versions of the series (below), our best computer for graphic design is about to look a very more lively.

According to everyone’s favorite Apple leaker, Jon Prosser, the 2021 iMac will be in black, white, green, blue and rose gold. Recent rumors have suggested that the new iMac has a slimmer edge and a thinner whole (like Apple’s) Pro shows XDR), and the versions of Prosser show a straighter and narrower profile.

So, those colors. The most obvious thing to note about the pastel colors is that it will be hoisted directly from the iPad Air in 2020. The move suggests that Apple is going to consolidate with its color schemes (although this is the case, it’s weird that the company is not releasing the iPhone 12 in the same muted tones).

But as many fans have pointed out, colorful iMacs can also be a nostalgic setback for the very first iMac. When Apple’s aesthetics were far more delightful than the metal-silver-gray festival it is today (the Apple logo was a rainbow, remember), it released machines in all sorts of charming colors. If we look at these 2021 iMac versions, we can not help but think of the 1998 iMac G3 (below).

And judging by the reaction on Twitter (below), it seems that fans are ready to see how Apple pushes back a bit of color in the iMac series. With some corners of the internet getting tired of minimal graphic design, can the sentiment indeed spread to product design as well?
