“It’s a very polarizing situation,” League City Police Chief Gary Ratliff said. “Where some people do not believe there should be masks and others do.”
According to police, James Schulz (53) entered the restaurant on Wednesday night without a face mask. He was asked to wear one to be served or to use the ride through.
The customer “refused to go to war,” Ratliff said, accusing restaurant staff of refusing to serve him because he was homeless.
Schulz then walked to the door and as the driver turned his back, he allegedly ran after the driver, tackled him and stabbed him several times in the arm and torso with a pocket knife, according to Ratliff.
Several staff members rushed to the driver’s aid and Schulz fled the restaurant by bicycle. The driver was transported to a hospital with three stab wounds, treated and released.
Police are still searching for Schulz and describe him as a short-lived resident in the area.
Ratliff said people should respect the masking policies of local businesses.
“A lot of these people had some of these events, I don’t know this driver, but had personal events with loved ones who died and died because of Covid, as some of our officers did,” Ratliff said. said. “All I would ask is that people should respect the opinions and policies of these businesses.”
“You may refuse to do business in those places, or whatever you choose, but there is no reason for you to engage in such aggressive behavior,” he added.
