The house where the doomed star Brittany Murphy and her husband, Simon Monjack, died, was sold for $ 12.2 million, The Post can reveal.
The sale, which took place under the radar on December 29, 2020, is only the latest chapter in the long, creepy saga of the house.
The house in Los Angeles, on top of the Sunset Strip, was sold to Murphy in 2008 by pop superstar Britney Spears.
On December 20, 2009 at 8:00 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call in the home, where Murphy, 32, apparently collapsed in a bathroom. She was transported to Cedars-Sinai Hospital, where she died about two hours later after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Her husband, who was 40, died just five months later on May 23, 2010 – also in the Hollywood Hills residence.
Firefighters were again called to the home for a medical emergency after Murphy’s mother, Sharon, found Monjack unconscious in the master bedroom. He was pronounced dead by paramedics.
The coroner’s report found that the cause of Monjack’s death was acute pneumonia and severe anemia, similar to the causes attributed to the death of his wife.
Later in 2010, authorities planned an inspection of the home to determine if toxic mold could have contributed to their deaths. However, the theory was later ruled out by the medical examiner’s office. The circumstances surrounding their deaths still haunt fans to this day: HBO Max announced a two-part documentary this week about the actress “Clueless” and “Uptown Girls.”
But the house itself has a story to tell. In the 11 years since Murphy and Monjack’s deaths, the property has been listed ten different times.
In 2013, a complete deconstruction and make-up of the sprawling mansion began, which lasted three years. Developers have tried to tear down the original structure and upgrade the property into a contemporary design that fits the SoCal lifestyle.
In 2017, the house was finally sold to a new owner, before being sold again at a loss of $ 2 million three months ago.
While Spears lived there, according to her former makeup artist Julianne Kaye, she had a decidedly haunting experience with the house.
On the February 24 episode of the podcast “We Need To Talk About Britney”, Kaye claims that Spears told her a run-up to supernatural powers: “[Spears] had that place on Sunset Plaza – and I’m just going to say, it’s really weird … She’s calling me … I had my girlfriend on her reiki cure, he came up, I think she’s having a crazy party weekend and had to relax. He left, and she swore to God that he had opened some spirit portal, and these evil spirits came in … and they tried to push her off the stairs or make something crazy. ‘
“It was so bad she’s gone,” Kaye continues. “She went to the Casa Del Mar Hotel to stay there and never returned home. She says: ‘I know you’re going to think I’m crazy. I’m not crazy. I know what I saw, I know what I felt. ”
But it seems that the recent owners of the house have put a lot of effort into continuing some of the gloomy history.
Here’s a look at the mansion with five bedrooms and nine bathrooms.
The house has an open floor plan with floor to ceiling windows in almost every room. A Crestron smart home system includes automatic window screens to let natural light flow throughout, according to the list.
The gourmet kitchen has modern Miele equipment and access to a wooden board. The main suite has a city view and boasts two walk-in closets, side-by-side bathrooms and a private patio.
There is also an elevator added that goes from the garage to the master bedroom.
Other features include a home theater, a massage room, a wine cellar, an infinity pool, a spa, a built-in braai area with seating and a custom fire pit.
