In the wake of a federal report warning of false negative results, the use of Curative COVID-19 PCR tests is stopped at a Los Angeles County-backed pop-up site, the Department of Health said Sunday a statement said.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning that Curative’s tests could yield false negative results.
Mayor Eric Garcetti defended the tests Thursday before the province was announced.
According to the province, Curative delivered a limited number of tests at pop-up test sites in mid-December, accounting for 10% of LA County tests administered during the time frame.
The department warned that all tests carry the risk of false negative results, and urged residents who tested negative to continue to isolate themselves 14 days after exposure or ten days after the onset of symptoms.
“There is no reliable way to detect early infection, which means that infection often spreads before symptoms develop,” the country said in the statement. “Nevertheless, PCR tests, including the Curative test, remain better at detecting diseases than other tests, including rapid tests.”
