LA County Public Health Reports 14,482 new positive cases of Covid-19, 166 new deaths – update – deadline

UPDATE: After violating 900,000 positive Covid-19 cases, Los Angeles County continues to see an increase. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Sunday confirmed 14,482 new positive cases and 166 new deaths.

The new data brings the count of Covid-19 cases in LA County to 920,177 and 12,250 deaths to date. 7,964 people are currently hospitalized with Covid-19, while 22% are in the ICU. Of the nearly 5,000,000 individuals tested, 17% of the people tested positive.

PREVIOUS: Los Angeles County saw nearly 100,000 new Covid-19 cases in one week, bringing the region to a total of 906,171 cases.

Public Health reported that the province reached another gloomy point, just a week after Los Angeles contracted 800,000 cases of coronavirus. Officials on Saturday confirmed only 16,982 new Covid-19 cases and 221 deaths.

‘The speed with which we are reaching serious milestones in COVID-19 deaths and cases is a [devastating] reflection of the enormous spread that occurs in the country. And this accelerated spread reflects the many unsafe actions that individuals have taken on holiday, ”said Barbara Ferrer, Director of Public Health.

In addition to counting 100,000 new cases in the past week, LA Public Health has also confirmed more than 1,000 new deaths in Covid-19 in the past four days. To date, there are currently 7,966 people admitted to the hospital due to the virus. 22% of hospital patients receive treatment in the ICU.

Southern California also still has 0% ICU capacity.

Los Angeles is deep in its coronavirus boom, as transmission rates and death rates are no sign of stopping. As the holiday boom continues to devastate the province, health officials warn it could only get worse.

“The current numbers could get worse. We can even see a further increase, ‘said dr. Paul Simon, chief scientific officer for public health in Los Angeles, said Friday. “This is worrying.”
