Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) admitted on Sunday morning that she flatly refused to give a direct answer when she was pressured to declare whether she would vote to replace President Donald Trump’s veto of the latest National Defense Act.
Last Friday, the Senate voted overwhelmingly 81 to 13 to override the president’s veto of the annual defense bill, with most Republicans joining Democrats in what became Trump’s first veto to be dominated.
The president refused to sign the NDAA because it contained provisions to strip the names of the bases named for the confederate generals and not to repeal Article 230, a law granting immunity to social media companies for the posting of third party content.
Loeffler, along with fellow Republican Georgia Senator David Perdue, did not participate in the Friday vote, citing their campaign activities in the upcoming Senate elections. During her interview on Fox News Sunday, guest ambassador Bret Baier repeatedly pressured the Conservative legislature to state its position on the bill – only for Loeffler to refuse to give a straight answer.
“A lot of people look at this race and think that President Trump may have only put you and Senator Perdue in a box when he threatened not to sign the COVID stimulus and government funding, and then he signed it,” Baier notes. on. ‘Then, after that, to demand extra direct payments, which you then supported, and then to veto the national defense bill, which you originally supported and voted for. Why did you not vote in the Senate on the veto? ”
Loeffler, who closely followed the president throughout the election, responded that she “stood with the president 100 percent of the time” before praising Trump for the military. She also pointed out that she had recently campaigned, which Baier had asked to push back.
“Knowing that campaign is important, and you say how important this election is on January 5, but obviously Georgia is a great defense state, the current and former military here, a defense industry here,” he added. “How would you have voted if you had voted for veto domination?”
Once again, Loeffler avoided the question, saying she initially supported the NDAA before repeating that she was fighting in Georgia. At the same time, the senator accused the Democrats of changing the original bill, saying she did not know how she would vote.
She also defeated her Democratic opponent Rev. Raphael Warnock explodes by misrepresenting a sermon he delivered on the fact that he did not serve two masters and claiming that he ‘attacked’ the army.
“But you would have maintained the veto over the NDAA?” Baier pushes again.
“Look, what’s at stake here is our army and our freedom,” Loeffler turned once more. “It simply came to our notice then. And I’m the daughter and granddaughter of veterans … But if we do not win on Jan.5, our army will be repaid and worse. ”
“I will not talk about it, but it is not a ‘yes’ or ‘no’, whether you will maintain the veto or not,” sighed the Fox News anchor.
“That’s right,” smiles a shameless Loeffler.
