Hill said in an interview with MSNBC host Chris Hayes on Thursday night that she and Gaetz became friends because they served on the House Armed Services Committee and were about the same age.

Hill said he stood up amid the allegations and leaks she encountered during her time in the House.

“When it really matters, when I felt especially abandoned by the people in my own party, and when I just betrayed and felt alone and disgusting and … disgusting of myself, it matters a lot that someone stands up for you. ”

But now, she said, amid “all this stuff” about the Florida Republican, she feels “betrayed.”

“I feel betrayed by him,” Hill told Hayes. “And I have to ask myself about the motivation to defend myself in the first place.”

The Justice Department is investigating Gaetz over allegations that he had sex with a 17-year-old girl and paid the girl to travel with him.

Gaetz denied all the allegations against him.

“He should resign immediately,” Hill said. “The Ethics Committee should investigate immediately and for some reason, when they open one on me based on a tweet or a Facebook message from my bitter ex-husband.”

Hill added that she believes there is a double standard between how women and men are treated during indictments.

“It’s frightening that this is the reality we’re looking at for women who put themselves up for election compared to men who, truly, Gaetz can probably be charged and re-elected and still win,” Hill said.
