Julia Letlow wins Louisiana’s 5th District Special Election, CNN Projects

Letlow will occupy the seat that her late husband Luke, who won last year’s election but passed away in December after being diagnosed with Covid-19, could never hold.
Julia Letlow wants to replace her husband who died of Covid-19 to bring her own experience to Congress

She will make history as the first Republican woman to represent the state in Congress.

A number of prominent Republicans lined up behind her after announcing her campaign for the seat. Former President Donald Trump, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and Louisiana GOP Representative Steve Scalise – the no. 2 House Republican – endorses her all out of the nine Republicans who vote for the seat.

Letlow, a first-time candidate, will avoid a run-off as she has achieved a majority among the 12-persons.

This is a striking story and will be updated.
