While many fans are still reeling from Friday’s official announcement that Regé-Jean Page will not return to Netflix and Shondaland’s Bridgerton, John Oliver picks up the news and finds it appropriate for Page’s character, Simon, the Duke of Hastings.
Oliver referred to Page’s departure in the main segment of his HBO show Last week tonight On Sunday, the U.S. focused on increasing national debt. After a snippet from a story by John Stossel about the debt issue that used footage of the riots in Greece during the country’s debt crisis, Oliver claims that ‘cutting an image of a riot may have looked worse before it could actually be ‘to use the same unrest video after the departure of Page from Bridgerton to illustrate how the manipulation of the news makes the news feel “quite scary”.

“But the truth is much more complicated,” Oliver said of Page’s retirement, following the actor’s one-year contract. ‘Because A: the bow of his character is mostly wrapped up and he does not appear in the rest of the novels. It really is a generational story of the whole family. And also, you can absolutely lose the Duke. It’s actually perfect in his character to start something he does not complete. ”
The last issue refers to Simon’s penchant for dating, which nearly ruined his marriage to Daphne Bridgerton.
Each of Julia Quinn’s eight Bridgerton novels, on which the Netflix series is based, focuses on one of the Bridgerton brothers and sisters.
Season 1, based on the first Bridgerton book, The duke and I, filmed the extensive romances of Simon (Page) and Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor).
The second season is about striving for a suitable marriage for Bridgerton’s eldest brother, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), as written in the second book. The Burgh Count who loved me.
Page’s departure was announced by Bridgerton ‘s Lady Whistledown, along with a message from the program, “Your grace, it was a pleasure”.
Page responded on Twitter. “Pleasure and a privilege! “It is an honor to be a member of the family – on and off screen, cast, crew and incredible fans – the love is real and will only continue to grow,” he wrote.
