Jodie Turner-Smith Starts in Netflix’s ‘Witcher’ Prequel Series – Deadline

Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim, Nightflyers) was named a lead role in Netflix’s six-part, live-action-limited series The Witcher: Blood Origin, a prelude to the series’ hit series The
Witcher.

Set in an elf world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher, Blood Origin tells a story that was lost with time – the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the core ‘merging of the spheres’, when the worlds of monsters, men and elves merged into one to become.

Turner-Smith will play Éile, an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess, who left her tribe and position as queen’s guardian to follow her heart as a nomadic musician. A great reckoning on the continent compels her to return to the path of the blade in her pursuit of revenge and redemption.

Declan de Barra serves as executive producer and display of The Witcher: Blood Origin. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, creator of The Witcher motherhood series, executive produced. Andrzej Sapkowski, author of The Witcher book series on which the Netflix program is based serves as a creative consultant. Jiv Brown and Sean Daniel of Hivemind, and Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko of Platige Films are all executive producers.

The Witcher: Blood Origin is one of two shows from the hit Netflix series The Witcher, starring Henry Cavill. The streamer also has an animated movie titled The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolfwhich focuses on the origin story of Geralt’s mentor and fellow Witcher Vesemir.

British actress Turner-Smith has received a strong award for her breakthrough in the lead role opposite Daniel Kaluuya in Queen & Slim, written by Lena Waithe and directed by Melina Matsoukas.

Turner-Smith can then be seen in A24s Na Yang to Colin Farrell as well as Amazon’s Without remorse, opposite Michael B. Jordan. Both films will appear in 2021. Turner-Smith will also play ‘Anne Boleyn’ in a three-part mini-series for the British broadcaster Channel 5.

This is a return to Netflix for Turner-Smith who played in the streamer’s Nightflyers series, based on the short stories by George RR Martin. Her serial credits also include Cinemax’s Jett, TNT’s The last ship, Amazon’s Mad Dogs and HBOs True blood.
