PHILADELPHIA – Mets third baseman JD Davis left the game against the Phillies on Tuesday after being hit by a fast-paced Chase Anderson left-hander, but the Mets are hopeful he avoided the worst. An in-game X-ray came back negative, leading to an initial diagnosis of a contusion.
The Mets remain wary of a possible hairline fracture that will not appear on an X-ray. They plan to send Davis for additional tests on Wednesday, after which they will get a clearer picture of his status.
“This is good news for the first X-ray,” manager Luis Rojas said late Tuesday night. “We will review it again tomorrow.”
Davis batted in the second innings when Anderson’s pitch of 91 km / h hit high and inside, hitting him square on the left. He seems to be in a lot of pain and leaves after a brief conversation with head coach Brian Chicklo. Luis Guillorme replaces Davis.
