TEHRAN, Iran – The top commander of Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard said on Friday that his country was fully prepared to respond to any US military pressure as tensions between Tehran and Washington remained high in the waning days of President Donald Trump’s government.
Gen. Hossein Salami spoke at a ceremony at the University of Tehran to commemorate the forthcoming one-year anniversary of the US drone strike in Baghdad, which on January 3, 2020, led the Revolutionary Guard General Qassem Soleimani, who was in charge of the expedition-Quds-power, killed.

At the time, Iran retaliated by launching a ballistic missile attack on a military base in Iraq that caused about 100 U.S. troops concussion injuries. Washington and Tehran came dangerously close to the war as the crisis escalated.
“Today we have no problem, concern or fear of experiencing any forces. We will give our last words to our enemies on the battlefield,” Salami said, without mentioning the US directly. Several top Iranian officials, along with Syrian, Palestinian and Lebanese allies and members of Soleimani’s family, were there.

Soleimani’s replacement, Brig. General Esmail Ghaani, said during the ceremony that Iran is not afraid to confront ‘forces’ again without mentioning the US. He also warned that “freedom seekers” in the US could retaliate for the attack that killed Soleimani, and America said that “inside” your own home, there may be those who want to respond to the crime you committed. ‘
The head of Iran’s judiciary, Ebrahim Raisi, said anyone who had a role in the assassination of Soleimani would not be able to “escape law and justice, even if they were a US president.

Iran’s foreign ministry also tweeted that Iran would not rest until perpetrators of Soleimani’s murder were brought to justice.
“By committing an insane act against terrorist Soleimani, the United States has violated the law and the UN Charter in a blatant violation of Iraqi sovereignty,” a statement on the ministry’s Twitter account said. “US lawlessness in full display. #Iran will not rest until he brings those responsible to justice.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Friday that Washington would take responsibility for the consequences of any possible “adventure” in the region. His comments come during a call with his Kuwaiti counterpart, according to the ministry’s website.
America has already transmitted B-52 bomber and sent a nuclear submarine to the Persian Gulf over what Trump officials describe as the possibility of an Iranian attack on the Soleimani commemoration.
