Brandin Cooks was traded more than the credentials for a streaming service.
The former first-round pick in 2014 has played for the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams and the Houston Texans since 2016. Teams paid a premium for his services, and he delivered. However, the 27-year-old is going to put his foot down.
“As for the team, if they could trade me for draft capital, I would warn them to think twice, because honestly I’m not going to accept any more deals,” Cooks said. ‘For me, if you want me out of your team, you’ll just have to let me go and choose my destination. For me, I have a newborn son at home and he is looking for someone to set an example, so I think it’s me who’s starting to get stuck when it comes to my career. ”
Cooks caught 70 catches for 984 yards and four touchdowns. Unless he is completely shut down in Week 17 against the Tennessee Titans, he deserves the fifth campaign for 1,000 receptions in his seven seasons in the NFL.
Quarterback Deshaun Watson is another elite signalman with whom Cooks had the luxury of playing. However, Houston is missing their first and second rounds in the 2021 NFL draft and may be looking for the draft for the draft capital. Cooks match the account given; there are no more guarantees for his contract.
“When it comes to playing here and playing with Deshaun, I would like to continue the growth, but it is beyond my hands,” said Cooks. “These are decisions I do not make, and I will hope that the team sees the growth we are experiencing and that we will show and grow that commitment over the years.”
The Texans ‘off-season with a new coach and general manager does not come to Cooks’ attention.
“For me, as a man who has been traded several times for a first round and is produced at a high level, I do not think about it,” Cooks said. “I understand that we are in a unique situation. For me, Four is a special player, and I would love to grow with him. ”
