Fred Segal’s became known as a high fashion boutique with a young and hip atmosphere. The stores attract customers, including the Beatles, Elvis, Diana Ross, the Jackson Five, Nicole Kidman and Jefferson Airplane.
When Segal opened its West Hollywood store, 85 percent of the stock in the 350-square-foot store was blue. Later, in a 700-square-foot store on Santa Monica Boulevard, Segal’s formative fashion was a big hit. This led to a single jeans store on Melrose on Crescent Heights in 1960 during the heyday of the retail strip, and he soon created the first ‘Jeans Bar’. Fred Segal’s denim designs for men and women sold for $ 19.95 when jeans were usually $ 3.

There were two Fred Segal locations founded by Segal, both of which own a number of boutiques in their own possession. The two stores are not connected, although they use the same logo and have the same annual sale, but each has a different taste. The Melrose location was run by Segal’s cousin, Ron Herman, while the others were in Santa Monica.
Segal is survived by five children, 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, his wife Tina and her two children and grandson. Segal’s family is asking mourners to consider donating to the Segal Family-United World Foundation.
