The 57-year-old Downton Abbey star took to social media on Friday to post photos of himself in Memorial Hall, Midhurst, West Sussex, where he volunteered for the Midhurst Pharmacy team after joining in March 2020.

Hugh writes: ‘Midhurst’s Riverbank Medical Center began vaccination last week. Midhurst Pharmacy, led by Raj Rohilla, took part in the launch in Northwest Sussex today. ‘

He then shared a group photo with other people working in the center, with everyone wearing masks, adding: ‘With former nurse Jo Wiltshire (left), Raj and retired GPs Andrew Douglas & Madelaine Litchfield (who gave me AstraZeneca jab).

Rounding off his post, Hugh shares a cheerful look of himself in a bright yellow vest and hat while doing a double thumbs up.

He writes: ‘I am delighted to be part of the support team as a volunteer marshall. I can wear hi hi and everything. ‘

Hugh joins other celebrities to get the vaccine, including Sir David Attenborough (94), Sir Ian McKellen (81) and Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith (80).

Sir Tom Jones also received his dose and told Jools Holland’s annual Hootenanny show: ‘It’s one good thing to be 80, you’re first in line for the jab.’

After Sir Ian McKellen received the vaccine at the Arts Research Center, Queen Mary University Hospital in December, he said: ‘This is a very special day, I feel euphoric!’

He went on to say: ‘Anyone who has lived as long as I have lived because they were vaccinated earlier.

“The survey among the older generation will be 100 percent – it should be – because you have it not only for yourself, but also for people you are close to – you do your bit for society.”
