Hot bags are recalled for possible contamination of glass, plastic

The Nestlé Prepared Foods has issued a recall of their pepperoni bags over the possibility of contamination by ‘foreign materials’, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Friday.

The company recalls the popular product due to reports that there are sneaky pieces of plastic and glass in some hot bags.

The FSIS received four reports from customers claiming to have found the material in their hot bags, leading to the recall of approximately £ 762,615 of the non-ready-to-eat items.

So far, only one “minor injury” has been reported related to the pollution, but the FSIS encourages consumers who have purchased the product to be careful and avoid consumption.

“This product must be discarded or returned to the place of purchase,” the FSIS wrote.

The products in question were manufactured between 13 November 2020 and 16 November 2020 and were sent to retailers across the country, says the FSIS.

Consumers are warned to look for hot bags with a label that reads “Nestlé HOT POCKETS BRAND SANDWICHES: PREMIUM PEPPERONI MADE WITH PIG, COW & BEEF PIZZA KNOOLBOTTERY CRUST,” with best use before the date of February 2022.

The FSIS has classified contaminated hot bags as a Class I high-risk problem, and urges consumers to seek medical help if they come into contact with the product.

Nestlé Prepared Foods, which acquired Hot Pockets in 2002, could not be immediately reached for comment.
