Hospitalization COVID-19 falls upwards as the positivity rate remains within recent ranges

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – The number of people admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 in Iowa, according to new state data, increased Saturday morning.

By 10:30 a.m., the Iowa Department of Public Health said 556 people tested positive for the virus had been added to the state’s total. That is now 342,463 since the beginning of the pandemic. The state no longer takes into account the number of people considered to be recovering from the disease.

Three people who died due to COVID-19 have been reported to government officials since the same time on Friday morning. 5,633 people died in Iowa as a result of the new coronavirus.

182 people are in Iowa hospitals with COVID-19, a net increase of 14. This is the largest increase in single days so far in March. 41 of the people are in intensive care units, a net increase of five. 17 of the people require the use of a fan, a net increase of four. 40 patients have just been admitted due to the disease during the last 24 hour reporting period, a rate similar to the previous day but higher than the days before.

A total of 1,031,062 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Iowa so far, an increase of 33,008 since the same time Friday. 366,371 people completed their vaccination course, through the two-shot vaccines or the one-shot vaccine Johnson & Johnson.

The first tests of 3,479 individuals were reported to the state in the past 24 hours. The positivity rate for this group of tests was 16.0%. A total of 1,594,768 individuals have been tested for the virus since the onset of the pandemic.
