Helen McCrory, ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Peaky Blinders’ star, dies at 52

McCrory, 52, died “peacefully at home” after “a heroic battle with cancer”, the star of “Homeland” in a tweet.

The London-born actress, who played as Narcissa Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” franchise, had a mysterious arc that served her well in vicious roles, including the period dramas “Peaky Blinders” and “Penny Dreadful” and the “Vampires” from Venice “episode of the long-running” Doctor Who. ”

Last year, she appeared in two mini-series: the Masterpiece production “Roadkill”, in which she played the British Prime Minister opposite Hugh Laurie; and ‘Quiz’, a fact-based drama about the ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ scandal.

She was no stranger to political roles, and played Cherie Blair – the wife of British Prime Minister Tony Blair – twice in “The Queen” and the TV movie “The Special Relationship”, both times with Michael Sheen and “The Crown “author Peter Morgan.

McCrory was also a talented stage actress and played strong women from Lady Macbeth to Medea in London’s West End.

McCrory and Lewis shared two children together. McCrory spoke about the unique juggling that sometimes claimed their lives to British Vogue in 2013.

“It must be a damn good offer to lure me away from them,” she told the publication. “That’s probably why the projects I’ve been working on since their birth were so interesting.”

Co-actor Matt Lucas paid tribute to McCrory in a post.

“Helen McCrory will be remembered not only for her remarkable stage and screen performances, but also for her selflessness and generosity,” Lucas wrote. “She and Damian were the car that drove FeedNHS and worked tirelessly during the pandemic to raise millions for others. What a huge loss.”
