In group messages received by The New York Times, Heidi Cruz said her home was “freezing” and invited an indefinite number of people to join her family until Sunday for a trip to the Mexican vacation spot.

The messages, confirmed by a second, anonymous person in the thread, invited friends to join them at the Ritz-Carlton in Cancun and noted the room rate at $ 309 a night this week. She added that her family has stayed there many times.
