Haley, widely regarded as a likely presidential candidate in 2024, has called on Democrats and technology and social media companies to ‘launch’.[ing] the American people’s passions beyond constructive boundaries. ”
But she also said the GOP plays a role, adding that “if we are the party of personal responsibility, we must take personal responsibility.”
“We can and should talk about our biggest differences,” Haley said. “But we must stop turning the American people against each other – and this Republican Party must take the lead.”
Haley’s remarks come on the second day of the RNC’s annual winter meeting, which attracts IDP officials from across the country. As Trump leaves office within two weeks, participants say they have been grappling with questions about the party’s future.
Among the topics discussed are the party’s twin defeats in Tuesday’s run of the Senate in Georgia, which will give Democrats control of both chambers of Congress and the presidency later this month. Some participants blamed the president privately for the defeats, arguing that his relentless and unfounded allegations of voter fraud were dampening the rise of the IDP.
Haley acknowledged that the Republicans were facing a “difficult reality” and said they needed to make some decisions about the “political predicament” they were in.
“We can whine about it. We can complain about that. We can blame each other for that. Or we can do something about it. If you ask me, there is no whining in politics, “she added.
Haley, a former governor of South Carolina, is one of a number of prospective 2024 candidates to appear at the RNC meeting. The government of South Dakota, Kristi Noem, and Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky also turned up Thursday. The government of Florida, Ron DeSantis, will speak on Friday.
Haley – in an early preview of a future campaign platform – used part of her speech to highlight her record as a UN ambassador. And after an election in which the party rallied in suburban areas, Haley proposed that the party accept inclusion.
“This Republican Party is a home for everyone, because we stand for the principles that are important to everyone. This is not the time to give up on these principles. It is time to proudly proclaim them from the suburbs to the cities to the farms across the country, ”she said.
Wednesday’s riots were an important point of discussion during the meeting. During a breakfast with members of the RNC earlier in the day, Ronna McDaniel, the party’s chairwoman, acknowledged that images of Trump supporters storming the Capitol had damaged the party.
