After Google Measure added a “Troubleshooting” menu last month, it has a pre-video call “green room” to “quickly give an example of how you will appear to others before entering.” It is available on the desktop and leaves you with border and network status.
You can use this new feature to verify that peripherals are properly configured and fixed, to check if your network connection is good and to understand the impact of noise cancellation on your audio (if available to your account).
Before joining a meeting, there is a new “Check your audio and video” button below your video stream. This ‘green room’ opens an almost full screen camera window and ‘Your devices’ appear below. You can choose between different microphones, speakers and cameras. This gives you an example of the best setup and capture:
- A microphone that is inadvertently muted
- A secondary screen with missing headphones or speakerphone jack
- Other sound problems, such as poor sound quality, sound that is too loud, or your background noise amplifying your microphone
If problems are detected, Google Measure will provide troubleshooting tips and tricks, such as ‘give your browser permission to use the microphone or camera’.
This Google Meet video preview is now starting for the following users, as well as personal accounts in our testing:
Available to Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus, as well as G Suite Basic, Business, Education, Enterprise for Education and Nonprofits customers
