Giancarlo Esposito is known for playing some of the most notorious villains on TV. He continues the trend by Mof Gideon in the Star Wars franchise’s Disney + series, The Mandalorian.
Esposito was very excited to join the Star Wars initially, and has a unique process of getting into character.

Esposito was a fan of Star Wars for much of his life and could not wait to play in the series, according to an interview on the Star Wars YouTube page.
‘I was a huge fan of the early Star Wars films and the world in which they exist, ”Esposito said. “I was head over heels when Jon Favreau asked me to do this show.”
He still loves Darth Vader
Esposito has always been intrigued by Darth Vader in earlier films and loved how dynamic the character of Vader is.
“I was always fascinated by Darth Vader,” Esposito said. “I thought the inside of the very, very hard and rough outside might be a human being who has the ability to bring a little light to our spatial odyssey in our galaxy.”

Because he knew a lot Star Wars fans can be very passionate about the franchise, he made sure he does a lot of research before accepting his role.
“I was strongly touched by Peter Cushing, who also played Moff many years ago,” Esposito said. ‘And tried to do research because I knew the fans know a lot more than what I did Star Wars. ”

On the first day of filming, Espotio had to carefully decide how he was going to approach the role of Mof Gideon.
“My first day of shooting, I came across a TIE fighter and landed,” Esposito said. ‘And then I’m introduced to what’s an absence with 300 stormtroopers. And all I can think about in my mind is: I’m Moff Gideon. I don’t have to do or say much to get what I want because I am going to get it. ”
The first day of filming laid the groundwork for Esposito’s exploration of the Mof Gideon character.
“And so it was the beginning of the fact that I found the balance of who this character is,” Esposito said.
He takes his trade very seriously
Esposito has a very specific idea of what it means to be an actor, and the responsibility he has in each of his performances.
“For me as an actor, I have to reflect the images I see and feel that are not really in front of me so that you can see this world reflected through my vision,” Esposito said. “And you have a real sense of it.”

In addition to entertainment, Esposito believes that the Star Wars franchise teaches children important lessons about the power of their choices and doing good in the world.
“It’s a series that empowers people to be who they are,” Esposito said. “We are in another world. And more than ever in history, our young people need to have the power to reflect on the impact they can personally have on our world. And Star Wars really focus on the effect and make them dream, leave them in awe and create a sense of empowerment around the fact that we are a hero. ‘
