Neville admitted that he was surprised at the number of changes made to the tie, and felt that Solskjaer missed a good chance for a trophy.
“It’s been a good week, not surprisingly they’re going to Milan and doing what they did because they’re well away from home,” he told the Gary Neville podcast with Sky Sports.
‘West Ham beat last week, and then I’m surprised the team is so twisted.
‘I know he did it, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but it was a real chance. You think of the semi-final that took place in the half-time match, which meant that the winner played Southampton.
‘It’s not a ploy against Southampton in the semi-finals, but it’s a chance. And I do think that the group of players should win a trophy under Solskjaer.

Neville also admitted that the defeat at King Power made him feel ‘demoralized’.
‘You can not rely on other teams to stop them if you are the second best team in the country. If you have a half-decent record against City, who have United under Solskjaer, you should be the ones who can stop them.
‘If you think about it in 1999, when Arsenal won the doubles last year, we were the only team that could stop them in the semi-final, and we stopped them, hard work, but we stopped them.
‘Same in the league, you can not wait for other teams to stop them for you. If you want to catch teams, you have to leave one behind, and I’m disappointed with that tonight.
