Franchise Tag Deadline threatens bears

The clock is ticking for the Chicago Bears. They can post the franchise label on WR Allen Robinson until 3pm CST on Tuesday.

Robinson and his camp made it clear how they feel about the lack of contract extension. The whole saga began in September when the star-studded receiver took all things regarding the Bears off his social media. However, the Bears themselves have repeatedly said how much they appreciate Robinson and how valuable he is to the team. Nevertheless, almost six months later, the deadlock continues.

The conflicting reports lead one to believe that nothing has changed in the saga. This is not a new agreement closer or further apart. That leaves only one option if Robinson tackles the Bears, the dreaded franchise label, next year.

If the Bears were to franchise Allen Robinson, $ 18 million would be fully guaranteed. A Bear / Robinson reunion leaves one less gap on the roster to worry about. As it stands now, outside of Robinson, Darnell Mooney is the only reliable wide receiver currently on the list.

However, if the Bears brought Robinson to market, it would release $ 18 million to spend elsewhere on the roster. To replace Robinson, the team will have to enter the market for another receiver or draft a draft. To be honest, they could both do.
