Snoqualmie (Wash.) Mount Si quarter Clay Millen opened his recruitment.
“I’m starting my recruitment and depriving myself of Arizona,” Millen said.
It was not a complete shock for Millen to open things up – to which he committed himself. Kevin Sumlin and Noel Mazzone back in June.
But when Sumlin was fired just before the early signing period in December, Millen decided to postpone signing with the Wildcats.
Shortly thereafter, Arizona rented Jedd Fisch as their head coach and Mazzone were not retained in Arizona, with Jimmie Dougherty and Brennan Carroll brought in to coach quarterbacks and coordinate the offense, respectively.
He selected the Wildcats after being previously offered by Pac-12 schools such as Colorado, Oregon and Oregon States.
The Pac-12 connection is deep in Millen’s family – his father, Hugh Millen, was a quarterback in Washington in the 1980s before playing in the NFL, while his older brother signed with the Ducks in the 2019 class. .
The youngest Millen supported Cale his first two years on Mount Si, before taking over as a junior in the 2019 campaign as an appetizer for the Wildcats.
And he made the wait worthwhile, picking up a big number in his first year as the starting pitcher for 3,145 yards, 34 passes and just one interception as he led the Wildcats to the WIAA 4A semifinals.
While Millen is a three-star in the 247Sports Composite Rankings in the industry, he is a four-star and a member of the Top247 on 247Sports, which ranks as the no. 13 pro-style quarterbacks at the national level and the No. 6 prospect is Washington State in 2021.
