Following the arrest of El Chapo’s wife, Mexico’s former president tweeted the current leader: ‘Do not worry, Emma’

The former president of Mexico made an apparent speech about the current leader of the country after the arrest of Emma Coronel Aispuro, the wife of the beauty queen of the infamous drug lord “El Chapo” in the United States, because she allegedly her husband helped run his million-dollar criminal empire.

Vicente Fox, who served as president of Mexico from 2000 to 2006, said on Twitter on Monday – shortly after the news of Coronel’s arrest – “Do not worry, Emma.”

“The president will come to the rescue !!” he added above the news of her arrest.

EL CHAPO’S WOMAN ORDER HELD BEHIND SELECTIONS NEXT INTERNATIONAL DRUG TRAFFIC

The current president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, had earlier criticized U.S. law enforcement over the arrest of a former Mexican defense secretary, retired Gen. Salvador Cienfuegos, in October 2020 for alleged drug trafficking and money laundering.

Cienfuegos was arrested in Los Angeles in October after being secretly indicted by a federal grand jury in New York in 2019. He is accused of conspiring with the H-2 cartel in Mexico to seize thousands of kilos of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana while he was secretary of defense from 2012 to 2018.

Prosecutors said intercepted messages showed that Cienfuegos was accepting bribes in exchange for the army not taking action against the cartel and for launching operations against its rivals. He is also accused of proposing cartel leaders to other corrupt Mexican officials.

Under pressure from Mexico’s implicit threats to restrict or expel U.S. agents, U.S. prosecutors dropped their case so that Cienfuegos could be returned to Mexico and investigated under Mexican law.

In January, Mexican prosecutors ruled that the U.S. case was completely unfounded, and absolutely removed Cienfuegos from accusations.

Lopez Obrador has offered Guzman’s family help in the past. In February 2019, a few days after the cartel leader was convicted in New York, Lopez Obrador said he had instructed his government to help the “El Chapo” family apply for humanitarian visas to visit the drug dealer.

The 31-year-old Coronel was arrested Sunday at Dulles International Airport in Virginia for alleged international drug trafficking.

The 31-year-old dual citizen, who has two daughters with Guzman, is facing a charge of conspiracy to commit one kilogram or more of heroin, five kilograms or more of cocaine, 1,000 kilograms or more of marijuana and 500 grams or more methamphetamines for illegal imports into the U.S., the Department of Justice said.

She is also accused of helping her husband manage his billion-dollar cartel and plan his impudent escape from a Mexican prison in 2015.

During her first court appearance Tuesday, Coronel was ordered to be detained behind bars pending trial. The judge’s order comes after Coronel’s lawyer Jeffrey Licthman said he would grant permission for her temporary detention while upholding their right to request a future trial.

She faces a minimum of ten years in prison if convicted, with a maximum life sentence and a $ 10 million fine.
