Dallas police did not disclose the name of the woman in the incident and investigators did not describe her relationship with Dewhurst.

Dewhurst, a Republican, served 12 years as lieutenant governor before losing his bid for a fourth term in 2014. He also ran for the U.S. Senate in 2012.

Last year, Dewhurst’s girlfriend was arrested on charges of injuring him after calling police when X-rays confirmed two of his ribs were broken. A grand jury later refused to charge the woman.
