First case of New York Covid Variant identified in Southern California – Deadline

Gavin Newsom, governor of California, said the state on Tuesday discovered the first variant of the virus in New York, Southern California. He did not specify where the cases were found.

The New York variant has spread rapidly over the past few days, with more than 700 cases – mostly on the East Coast – confirmed since it was first detected in November. Like other variants, it is also believed that the New York variety is more easily transmitted from person to person, but federal authorities, including dr. Anthony Fauci, warned that the variant may be more resistant to current COVID vaccinations.

While Newsom painted a rosy picture of California’s work controlling the distribution of Covid-19, he again preached continued vigilance and masked wear, despite the fact that Texas and Mississippi lifted such mandates, pointing out that ‘ a virus variant was found in the state.

CA Govin Newsom Rips Texas Fellow Greg Abbott for Removing Mask Requirement:

“We’re making progress, but it’s not a mission,” Newsom said during a visit to Long Beach. ‘And as we move over the next 90 to 100 days to get to where the president and others have assured us we will be – and that’s a framework of vaccine abundance and we start our businesses and we schools – we need to pay attention to these variants. ”

“That is why it is essential and obligatory that we do not dispose of our hats, but also do not remove our masks, as this is related to the transmission of this disease, which still takes thousands of lives every day – hundreds of lives each day the state of California is lost here, ”said Newsom. “It’s a deadly disease. It does not take a spring break. It has not taken a day off since this time last year.

While Newsom was speaking, Barbara Ferrer, director of public health in Los Angeles County, omitted the mention of the NY variant as she walked through the list of those playing in the region.

Ferrer said the province had discovered an almost doubling of the (still small) number of British variant cases, one case of the Brazilian variant, no cases of the South African variant, and most importantly, 239 cases of the so-called West Coast variants. She noted that 239 out of 679 samples were tested.

“We will defeat it. We will turn the proverbial page. We do, but please let us be vigilant as we work through and go to the herd immunity. ”

Newsom noted that the test positivity rate in the state dropped to 2.2% from Wednesday, noting that “there are only a few states in America with a lower positivity rate than California.”
