FBI releases new security footage of person placing pipe bombs outside RNC and DNC headquarters

Two pipe bombs near the Democratic and Republican headquarters were planted on Jan. 5, the night before the uprising at the Capitol, the FBI said.

The videos, which offer multiple angles from different cameras, provide a clearer view of a masked person wearing a hood as the person moves through neighborhoods and near the RNC and DNC. At one point, the individual stops and wipes off the glasses. They also sit on a bench near the DNC.

In January, the FBI released a wanted poster of the suspect, wearing Nike Air Max Speed Turf shoes in yellow, black and gray, and containing photos of them along with photos of the devices. Authorities said the bombs were dropped between Jan. 5 and 8:30 p.m.

“We believe the information released today will help someone recognize the suspect, or something about it,” FBI Assistant Director Steven D’Antuono said in a video statement.

D’Antuono said the person who allegedly placed the pipe bombs was wearing a face mask, a gray sweatshirt and black and gray Nike shoes.

“One device was placed in an alley behind the RNC,” D’Antuono said. “The other one was placed next to a bench near the DNC.”

In addition to the physical description of the suspect, the FBI called on the public to provide information about people who may have experienced behavioral changes before, during or after the January 6 uprising.

“This could include planning travel plans to Capitol Hill or investigating the locations of the DNC and RNC,” D’Antuono said, as well as anyone who had purchased threaded pipe and kitchen times before the incident.

CNN reported earlier that the devices were aimed at egg timers and filled with an explosive powder. Officers from the ATF, the FBI, the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan DC responded to the scene in the two offices, which are less than a quarter of a mile apart and are just a block south of the Capitol, and the bombs was safely exploded at the scene by robots.

The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a rally on Friday, January 6, at about 1 p.m. a report by the acting head of the U.S. Capitol was given to lawmakers and the FBI poster in January.

The FBI, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, is offering a $ 100,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the person responsible for placing the explosive. They ask people to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit tips online at Tips.fbi.gov, which can be anonymous.
