Farm workers get vaccinated at California mobile clinic

MORGAN HILL, Calif. (AP) – California farm workers have set up for the coronavirus vaccine at a mobile clinic, which organizers hope will set an example for outreach to a community disproportionately affected by COVID-19 .

About 1,000 workers from several farms are expected to receive shots at the Monterey Mushrooms facility in Morgan Hill on Sunday and Wednesday, Santa Clara County health officials said.

“The best way we can honor our frontline workers is what we do today, what makes them vaccinate,” said Cindy Chavez, county supervisor, at the pop-up site in a rural area just south of San Francisco. Bay Area said.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the province’s first mobile vaccine clinic is aimed at farm workers to meet the newly expanded state qualification that includes workers in the education sector, emergency services and food and agriculture. Province officials expect to pull next to a place in Gilroy agriculture, the newspaper said.

The United Farm Workers union joined the province and Monterey Mushrooms, a longtime agricultural producer, was a partnership to organize Sunday’s event.

Farm workers have been one of the hardest hit communities since the start of the pandemic. A University of California, Berkeley study found that 13% of Salinas Valley farm workers tested positive for coronavirus between mid-July and November. By comparison, according to the Chronicle, only 5% of California residents tested positive between the onset of the pandemic in March and November.

At least 35 of the 58 provinces in the state have begun vaccinating teachers, the governors’ office said last week.

San Diego County officials have announced that COVID-19 vaccinations will open this weekend to people in emergency services, child care and education, and food and agriculture.

Government Gavin Newsom’s vaccination priority vaccine plan also includes supervisors, administrators, food and bus workers and other staff who work at schools or expect to be in school within the next three weeks.
