It comes after clashes between farmers and police on Republic Day and two days back between protesters and locals at Singhu border. Farmers have been protesting along Delhi’s borders for more than two months, demanding that three farm laws be repealed.

“200 policemen in Delhi have given collective resignation in support of farmers. The party has just started,” said one suchweet in Hindi.

AFWA investigation

A massive resignation in the Delhi police, also in support of the ongoing peasant agitation, would certainly have made headlines. However, we could not find any reliable media report supporting the claim.

For better clarity, India Today reached out to Anil Mittal, a Delhi liaison officer. Mittal took the viral rubbish by the throat and said that there was no such joint step by the Delhi police staff.

“The allegation on social media is false. There was no resignation in the Delhi police in support of farmers. Our staff who were injured during the Republic Day violence are still recovering in different hospitals,” Mittal said.

The Personal Information Bureau also confirmed that the viral claim was false.

Meanwhile, on January 30, Mahasangh police in Delhi, along with family members of staff injured during the January 26 clashes, held a demonstration against the violence. They were accompanied by retirees as well as service of the police personnel in Delhi.

Delhi police issued notices to 12 agricultural leaders on January 29 to take part in the investigation into Republic Day violence. Therefore, it is clear that the post in which it is alleged that 200 police personnel in Delhi resigned in solidarity with the protesting farmers is untrue.
