Fact check: It is not members of Bajrang Dal in UP who demand the repeal of farm laws

Almost every opposition party in India has supported the ongoing peasant agitation. But do organizations related to the ruling Law also oppose the farm laws?

A photo of a large group of men with saffron scarves and flags, and some standing on a bulk cart, is shared on social media with allegations that members of Bajrang Dal in Uttar Pradesh protested against the farm laws and Prime Minister Narendra Modi .

The caption in Hindi in one such tweet translated into: “Bajrang Dal appeared out of protest against the agricultural laws and called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a thief. Even they now know the truth. ”

India Today Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) found the allegation along with the image misleading. This photo is from a Shiv Sena protest in the Hingoli district of Maharashtra on February 5 against fuel price increase.

AFWA PROBE

When we search the image in reverse, we find a similar picture from another angle in the online edition of the Marathi daily “Sakal”.

According to this report, the image of a march of a bulk cart on February 5 by the Shiv Sena in the Hingoli district of Maharashtra is against the recent increase in the fuel price. The protest, led by Shiv Sena MLA Santosh Bangar, started from the party office and marched through Hira in Indira Gandhi Chowk, the report adds.

With this in mind, we reached out to MLA Bangar confirming that the picture in question came from a Shiv Sena rally held by him.

‘This photo is of a protest march held by members of Shiv Sena against the rising fuel prices in the country. It was held on February 5 in Hingoli. I was also part of the rally. The protest has nothing to do with Bajrang Dal, “Banger explained.

We also found videos of the rally uploaded to YouTube on February 5th. Slogans against fuel price increases can be heard in these videos.

Retail prices of motor fuels reached record highs across India, leading to demonstrations in various parts of the country.

According to a report by ‘Prospects“On February 5, Shiv Sena, led by Uddhav Thackeray, held demonstrations in various parts of Maharashtra over the fuel price increase.

It is therefore clear that the viral image shown by men with saffron flags comes from a Shiv Sena protest in Maharashtra at rising prices of petrol, diesel and LPG. The image is not related to Bajrang Dal and farm laws.
