Ethan Hawke Boards Blumhouse Feature ‘The Black Phone’ – Deadline

Ethan Hawke joins Blumhouse’s upcoming function The black phone, the actor’s ninth review with producer Jason Blum.

Hawke joins Jeremy Davies, of whom we first told you, in the film directed by Scott Derrickson, which will be distributed via Universal. Cameras turn on The black phone next month in North Carolina. The plot is supervised. Derrickson and regular contributor C. Robert Cargill adapted the screenplay based on Joe Hill’s short story.

Recently Hawke starred in Blumhouse’s Showtime series The Good Lord Bird, which achieved the actor’s TV debut. Hawke also produced the CEO and co-wrote the series based on James McBride’s National Book Award-winning novel. The limited series of seven parts follows the story of the abolitionist John Brown, played by Hawke. The series was recently recognized by the American Film Institute (AFI) as one of the best television programs of the year.

Next up, Ethan will star alongside Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgard in Robert Egger’s film The Northman as well as the upcoming film by Abel Ferrara Zero and one. Hawke has Oscar nominations for supporting actors for Boy and Practice day and Custom Screenplay Oscar Names for Before sunset and Before midnight.

Derrickson, Cargill and Jason Blum, for Blumhouse, produced the film. Universal and Blumhouse present the Crooked Highway Production. Joe Hill is an executive producer.
