As expected over the past few days, James Cameron’s Avatar swapped places with Avengers: Endgame, winning the title of best-grossing film ever worldwide. China’s reissue of the 2009 3D sci-fi phenomenon took an estimated 58 million ($ 8.9 million) to 17:00 local time on Saturday after it was re-released on Friday. That’s a $ 7.82 million gap between the two films before China’s reissue. Disney / Marvel’s Endgame previously had the top world crown of Avatar in July 2019. The current (and liquid) Avatar global total is an estimated $ 2,798,579,794 versus Endgamesee $ 2,797,501,328.
The numbers on Avatar, which was originally released in China in early 2010 and raised nearly $ 203 million at the time – a large figure before the market began to expand exponentially, will continue to grow for the rest of today and in the coming days. The film is currently leading pre-sales until Tuesday in the Middle Kingdom.

Avatar currently has a 9.2 score on Maoyan, compared to an earlier 9.1, and the service has a $ 378.2 million ($ 58 million) finish for the reissue. There’s a runway ahead with not much other than the presentation of big tickets to Warner Bros / Legendary’s Godzilla teen Kong, dated March 26.

Cameron spoke to China.org on Thursday, saying the film is just as relevant today as it was when it was released more than a decade ago. ‘We have climate change, deforestation, our relationship with nature is in greater danger than it has ever been, and Avatar is about those things, but it’s also a timeless movie. Some people criticize the stories because they are too simple. It was not that simple – it was universal. It was something that everyone everywhere could understand and emotionally relate to. ‘This is remarkable Avatar has had a handful of reissues since the original run, while Endgame earned virtually all of its money in 2019.
Cameron is working hard on the sequels. Disney has scheduled Avatar 2 for December 16, 2022; part 3 for December 20, 2024; part 4 for 18 December 2026; and part five for December 22, 2028.
