Neil Mahoney, known for editing a number of projects, including Comedy Central’s Drunk History and Key & Peele, died. He was 43
The editor-producer suddenly dies on January 7 in his home in Echo Park. Friend and comedian Jonah Ray announced Mahoney’s death on January 10 with an Instagram message.
“He was so beautiful,” Ray wrote. ‘Oh god, I love you nail. I love you so much. ‘
Other members of the comedy scene also lamented Mahoney’s loss by turning the hat brand #Neiledit in a collection of fond memories and moving utterances. Among those who share fond memories and pay tribute to Mahoney were Bojack Rider actor Paul F. Tompkins, Emily Gordon, Sara Benincasa and Janet Varney.
“I have to lead the massive choir over the loss of Neil Mahoney, who edited / drafted / made me laugh through my project last month,” Varney wrote. ‘Like everyone else, I’m struggling to accept that he’s suddenly gone. He was a brilliant editor and wonderful man. “

Mahoney, born March 7, 1977 in Cape Cod, MA, kicked off his career with writing credits for The offensive show and Highway to oblivion. He started producing in 2005 for James House and CD USA in 2006.
Mahoney achieved his first editing job in 2007 for web series Derek and Simon: The Show. His editing career only took off years later when he started editing episodes for Drunk history.
In addition to editing the Comedy Central series, Mahoney also has 8 distractions for Funny Or The Gifts.
Mahoney received an Emmy nomination in 2016 for his editing chops on Key and Peele, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele’s sketch series. He shares the nomination with Richard LaBrie, Nicholas Monsour and Stephen Waichulis.
His additional credits include Portlandia, the greatest party story ever, another era and The very funny show.
He is survived by his mother, Claudia, and his sister, Megan.
