Elderly Asian woman stabbed in California while walking dogs

According to authorities, an elderly Asian woman was stabbed to death in Riverside, California, on Saturday while walking her dogs.

CNN reports that Riverside police received several calls about 64-year-old Ke Chieh Meng suffering from stab wounds on Golden Avenue in the vicinity of La Sierra after he was attacked while walking her two small dogs that morning.

She was taken to the hospital and later died.

Shortly after the attack, authorities received reports from neighbors in the area of ”a passing woman walking through their yards and appearing suspicious,” according to CNN.

The woman, 23-year-old Darlene Stephanie Montoya of Los Angeles, was later detained safely, Riverside police said.

“When the detectives interviewed the suspect, they did not come across anything that indicated she had attacked the victim,” Riverside police spokesman Ryan Railsback told CNN.

Montoya is being held without bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of murder, a gun offense and under the influence of an illegal drug. She was arrested earlier on March 30 by Riverside police after she attacked a woman with a skateboard near a strip shop, according to authorities.

This incident took place less than a month after a deadly shooting in Atlanta, GA, which resulted in the deaths of eight people, six of whom were Asian women. The attack sparked a nationwide conversation about the recent increase in anti-Asian violence.
