Eddie Van Halen’s son, Wolfgang, says he was ‘hurt’ by the brief tribute from father in the Grammys ‘In Memoriam’ segment

Eddie Van Halen’s son protects his father’s legacy.

The young musician, Wolfgang, started talking on social media on Monday after the broadcast of the Grammy Awards in 2021 about the ‘In Memoriam’ segment, in which the late rocker appeared briefly.

Wolfgang, 29, began his statement by revealing that he had turned down an offer from the Recording Academy to perform during the segment, feeling that no one ‘could’ comply with what my father did for music, except for himself. ‘

He prosecuteand explains that it is his understanding that the segment will contain ‘pieces of songs’ that will be performed for the late artists to be honored.

“I did not realize that they would only show Pop for 15 seconds in the middle of four full performances for others we lost,” he said. “What hurt the most was that he was not even mentioned when they talked at the beginning of the show about artists we lost.”

The young star said he was aware that ‘rock is not the most popular genre at the moment’, but criticized the Academy for being ‘a bit out of touch’ and that he apparently’s my father’s legacy on the instrument, the world ‘ignores’ of rock and music in general. ‘

“There will never be an innovator like him again,” storms Wolfgang.

The Mammoth WVH musician said he did not want to start some kind of hate parade ‘and thought his father’ would probably just laugh and say ‘Ehh who gives’s —?’ ‘

He added that he hopes to have the opportunity to speak directly with the Academy “not only about my father’s legacy, but also about the legacy of the rock genre moving forward.”

Van Halen died in October at the age of 65 after having cancer. Wolfgang spoke about the impact of his father on himself and on the music as a whole.

The long “In Memoriam” segment also came under fire recently for omitting late “Glee” star Naya Rivera, who recorded and released the song “Sorry” in 2013.
