The representative of the “Saved by the Bell” star tells TMZ … Dustin struggles to reconcile the type of lung cancer he has – stage 4 small cell carcinoma – because it is usually caused by smoking, and he has never been a smoker .
So, we’re told that Dustin can not help but wonder if his cancer is the result of his regular work trip over the past 20 years.
The representative says Dustin’s worked on film sets and at comedy clubs across the country for meetings and greetings … and sometimes had to stay in fairly questionable hotels and motels because there were no other options.
We are told Dustin believes that some of these spots may have had mold or asbestos … which he could inhale and cause his cancer.
As we reported, Dustin has just completed his first round chemo in a Florida hospital, and will soon begin physical therapy while awaiting the second round of treatment.
We are told that his doctors did not determine what caused his cancer, but as we reported, he has a history of it in his family. Sy ma died of breast cancer.
Dustin’s representative says they are waiting for more test results and hope to get answers.
