Disney offers first look at Avengers Campus in California Adventure Park, unveils opening date – deadline

Disney has unveiled the first images and computer visuals from the Avengers campus, which will open on June 4 at California Adventure.

The theme park, along with Disneyland in Anaheim, will finally reopen on April 30 for California residents with capacity limitations after more than a year of coronavirus closures.

In a press briefing and blog post, executives presented new details about the park’s widely anticipated Marvel area. (Watch a short video above.) Visitors will be “invited to work with the Avengers and their allies and live out your Super Hero dreams,” the blog post promised. “The Avengers campus consists of several heroic locations, each hosted by a different Avenger to share their unique powers, technology and knowledge with recruits.”

One area, the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (or WEB), will focus on Spider-Man. It features WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, the first Disney ride by Spidey, to be voiced by Tom Holland. Interestingly, the feature film franchise is a rare Marvel property that does not belong to Disney for complex reasons. But the company can exploit it for theme parks.

Other elements of the new campus include: Guardians of the Galaxythemed attraction that opened in 2017, a Doctor Strange section and encounters with a number of Marvel characters roaming the grounds.

As for the overall approach to the theme park industry, which according to executives has undergone a revaluation in the absence of crowds, some changes are underway. Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, said Disney is creating a ‘multidisciplinary team’. Its responsibility is to develop ‘groundbreaking ideas that will shape the future of the gas experience’.

D’Amaro, emphasizing his remarks during the virtual briefing, swung a ‘real’ light saber. In a separate interview with CNN, he promised that the parks would be ‘technology’ and explore the ‘metavers’ with a variety of futuristic offerings.
