California representative Devin Nunes said Wednesday that if the GOP gains control of the House in 2022, Republicans could be under pressure to accuse President Joe Biden.
Democrats in the House accused former President Donald Trump in February of allegedly inciting the January riots at the U.S. Capitol building. Some Republicans have said that Trump’s rhetoric, which included unfounded claims of voter fraud, did not constitute an undisputed offense. In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Nunes said that the restoration of certain social media platforms will enable the IDP to spread ‘good information’ to the American people.
“If we start disclosing good information to the American people,” Nunes said, “Republicans have a good chance of taking home in 2022. If it happens now, and for example let’s not know what it’s going to happen happens to Hunter Biden’s laptop. We do not know what will happen to the Durham investigation. But I could see that the pressure would be great for us to actually have to accuse Biden. ‘
“Now look, I do not want to do this, but you are going to have people who are going to say it,” Nunes added.
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) on Wednesday released a list of 47 congressional seats that he said could be won in the 2022 election. “House Republics are starting just five seats less than a majority and are prepared to build on our successes in 2020 to deliver a lasting Republican majority in the House,” NRCC chairman Tom Emmer said in a statement.

Nunes said other Democratic members of the House, including House executives and those who have publicly criticized Trump, could also lose their appointments to the House committee.
“All of those damn guys can be removed from their committee within two years,” Nunes said. “This is where we are headed if the American people cannot resist this nonsense.”
In February, House Democrats removed Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene from her positions on the House Committee on Education and Labor, as well as the House Budget Committee. House Republicans wanted Greene to refuse for her comments before the election, which apparently included conspiracy theories. Greene also indicated on social media support for the execution of Democratic lawmakers before they could take office.
Trump, the only U.S. president to be charged twice, is currently the subject of a Senate trial. Democrats claim that Trump’s unfounded allegations of voter fraud have aroused his supporters and incited violence. After Trump made remarks in January during a Stop the Steal rally in Washington, DC, his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol building in an effort to prevent the certification of Biden’s victory.
During his remarks, in which he claims that the Democrats stole the election, Trump told the crowd “if you do not fight like hell, you will no longer have a country.”
Texas Senator Ted Cruz on Tuesday criticized the indictment against Trump. “Nothing he said meets the legal standard for incitement,” Cruz told Fox News.
Biden did not comment extensively on Trump’s accusation. “The Senate has their job and they are about to start it and I am sure they are going to act well,” Biden said Tuesday. “And that’s all I’m going to say about accusation.”
