In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Lovato reflected on what was going on in her mind when she returned after her overdose in 2018 to perform.

Lovato returned to the stage at the Grammys in January 2020 to perform ‘Anybody’ – her first time since recovering from her overdose.
“I did not know if I would ever step on stage again,” she said. “When I woke up in the hospital, I did not know what the damage was. I have not tried to sing yet. ‘
Lovato also began surviving the virtually fatal overdose, of which she suffered brain damage, and doctors at one point said she had ‘five to ten minutes’ to live.
“If no one had found me, I would not be here,” she said. “I’m thankful I’m sitting here today, yes.”
“For the first time in my life, [I] had to essentially die to wake up. ‘
During the interview, Lovato also spoke more about the recent revelation that she is not completely sober: “I think the term I identify with best is ‘California Sober,'” she explained.
“I really do not feel comfortable explaining the extent of my recovery to people,” she continued, “because I do not want anyone to look at my safety boundaries and think that it works for them, because it might work. not.”
“I’m careful to say that, just as I feel that the complete abstinence method is not a solution for everyone. I do not think that this degree of moderation is a uniform solution – neither is the solution for everyone.”
